DS106DC 5

I actually really liked this Daily Create today. I tried out the poem creator they linked, but I did not like how it worked. So, I was somehow able to write it on my own. I’m surprisingly proud of the haiku that I wrote. It’s not the most creative, poetic, or interesting haiku that has ever been written; however, it has 5,7,5 syllables, following all the rules to a haiku. And yes, I have counted these syllables out loud multiple multiple multiple times. I love hiking so I chose to make my haiku about it, incorporating the prompt at the same time. It also describes a sort of feeling that you understand if you have been on an early morning hike. You hear the birds chirping in the trees, the bushes rustling, and you feel just pure happiness in that moment. I’m happy I could share that happiness with this Daily Create.

I had my roommate take this panorama on my phone. We had some trial and error to try and figure out how to get me in multiple places at once. We finally figured it out (chopping off my legs in the first chair, oops). I tried to change up the poses, and definitely accomplished what I was trying to do with this photo. I wanted to make sure I could sit in the different chairs in the room. I pretended to sleep in the 3rd chair and if you zoom in, you can actually see me with one eye open, thanks to the lag from the panorama.

I used Procreate once more (easiest to use in my opinion) on my iPad. I don’t own any picture books so I had to look up photos of them, then photoshop them together. I chose to block out the unneeded words because 1) it makes it easier to read and 2) it’s a thing in book poetry to scribble out the words in the book you aren’t using to make poetry.

My “poem” reads: “I Had Trouble with the Words, I Wish that I Had Help, Will You Please Help”. I started off the idea thinking about the fact that I was having trouble putting the words in the book titles together to make a poem. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to come up with something really poetic, but then I thought, why not make it funny, talking about what I was going through when I was making it. And that is the final product!

Bad Photo + Helvetica

I used Procreate to add the text onto the photo, using my iPad. I took the photo with my phone when on vacation in California. The photo isn’t necessarily a “bad” photo; however, I believe the text is what makes it a “bad” photo. My Mom is the one who is in the photo, and I sent it to her and she thought it was hilarious. She is obviously okay, was not pushed off the cliff, and lives to see another day.

But fun fact, this really was as scary of a dropoff as it looks. We were climbing a mountain and, naturally, mountains are steep. She could have easily fallen, but of course, she wanted a good photo.

Although Wal-ee is a robot found on Earth after humans ran the planet into waste, I felt like adding him to the picture because when I noticed that this photo was taken by a rover, I felt that Wal-ee was a perfect (and very cute) addition to the photo. I added little touches to make it feel more like a postcard that would be sent from Mars. Little NASA symbol in the corner, a stamp of course, and a fun line at the top, playing off of the human assumption that aliens would say greetings if they met us. As a marine biology major, I support the exploration of the ocean before space, but I do find it fascinating that we are able to take pictures on an entirely different planet and the technology is only advancing as time goes on. We need to be figuring out ways to save the planet we live on before we start poking into other planets to eventually ruin as well, but that’s just my personal take. That much money should be spent in a smart way, not just based on curiosity alone. After all, curiosity killed the cat.

I both loved and hated seeing this prompt. I am from Northern Kentucky, about 10 minutes South of Cincinnati, Ohio so I am quite far from home at the moment. This means that I am very far (about 1,000 miles to be exact) from my dog. His name is Jesse, he is a 9-year-old Cocker Spaniel Poodle mix (Cockapoo) and he is the best thing that has ever happened to me. When I left for school, I asked my Mom to specifically stop sending me photos of him because it would make me way too homesick and I would end up moving back home. I haven’t been able to look at pictures of him since I have been here this semester, leaving him after winter break. This assignment required a GIF of our pet and he is the only pet I own, so I had to go back through the pictures I had of him. This definitely did not help my homesickness and I now have a plane ticket to fly home for spring break. I chose one of the cutest photos I’ve taken of him, but trust me, there are definitely more. He had just gotten out of the bath and we had to use his new shampoo with tea tree oil in it, so he was not very happy about the smell. I wrapped him in his Spiderman towel and he pouted on the couch for about an hour. I would give anything to see him again soon (I did in fact pay $300 for a plane ticket to see him for spring break). I hope you enjoy this photo of him and I hope he makes your day! <3

When I saw the prompt for this week’s DS106 Assignment, I got super excited. I do photography (check out my photography account if you want/need photos done), so I knew this would be a great opportunity to share some photos I took while also showcasing some of my favorite places I’ve been to! The photo in the top left is on a mountain in Yosemite National Park. My family and I went together and we hiked to the top just in time to capture the sunset. The photo in the top right is from when my family and I went to Bumpass Hell in Lassen Volcanic National Park and I took a photo right before we reached the bottom of the hill. It showcases the hot springs that the area is known for. The middle left photo is also from Yosemite in Tuolumne Meadows where we got out for a short amount of time to walk around. It was a really nice break and all I remember is being happy. The middle right photo is from Kings Canyon and I was still learning how to capture motion in photos at the time. It was great practice for my photography and I vividly remember talking to other tourists who were visiting the waterfall. They were all very nice and it was a wonderful 15 minute stop. Lastly, the photo at the bottom of the collage is from Lake Helen, a lake on Mount Shasta located in Lassen Volcanic National Park. It was in the middle of August when we went and it was super shocking to find snow at the top! The water was freezing cold but made for beautiful photos. These are definitely all places I recommend for other people to go to. I know I would go again!

Daily Create 2

For this Daily Create, I used Procreate, just like I used for the last one. It made it very easy to draw what I was envisioning when I saw the prompt for the Daily Create. I cannot wait for the Valentine’s Day themed Daily Creates that are coming our way for the next week and a half. There’s nothing more I love than getting to use my creativity for an assignment, and getting to take some time out of my week to draw is a very efficient stress-reliever.

The image I drew was inspired by a kaleidoscope (per the prompt) and I made sure to incorporate both hearts and peace signs into the design in order to complete the prompt full-circle. And if you can tell, the whole drawing itself is in the shape of a peace sign to pull it all together. Definitely my favorite Daily Create so far and it’s only day 2!

I took a long time to consider what I would make for this assignment. I almost used some pretty dark humor, but definitely had to stop myself from going too far. I decided that the Troll Quote I chose was a good amount of humor that, hopefully, enough people would understand, without crossing any sort of line.

I think it’s good history humor that would hopefully make some people chuckle. It also makes it even funnier to know that the quote was actually said by Boris Johnson.

I honestly had no idea what to expect from this assignment. I was reading our class to-do list with such confusion when I saw this task. However, the more I looked into it, the more I grew to like it. Seeing 150-200 words initially looks so intimidating, but after completing my drawing for the assignment, it became easy to write about. I am very proud of my submission for today, although I wish I had used some more creativity. A flamingo doesn’t relate much to 2’s or Groundhog day, but I figured it was a cute design that would (hopefully) grab the attention of whoever sees the post. It took me much faster than I thought for the whole process. This made me realize how simple it would be to get at least 1 done a week. If I find myself with random time throughout the day, I would be able to crank out 2 or 3 of these in one sitting. Sounds like extra bonus points for meeee!
